PAC Doverie joined the UN Global Compact
In the beginning of February Pension Assurance Company Doverie AD was accepted as full-rights member to the UN Global Compact, a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with the ten universally accepted principles of corporate social responsibility.
Presently the UN Global Compact is the world's largest voluntary corporate responsibility initiative. It includes over 4700 businesses in more than 130 countries around the world, joined by the common goal in the context of globalization to help ensure that markets, commerce, technology and finance advance in ways that benefit economies and societies everywhere.
In its nature the Global Compact is policy framework for the development, implementation, and disclosure of sustainability principles and practices in the sphere of corporate social responsibility. Its participants are offered a wide spectrum of specialized workstreams, management tools and resources, and topical programs and projects - all designed to help advance sustainable business models in order to contribute to the initiative's overarching mission of helping to build a more sustainable and inclusive global economy.
The Global Compact asks companies to embrace, support and enact, within their sphere of influence, a set of core values in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment, and anti-corruption:
Human Rights
Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and...
Principle 2: ...make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
Labour Standards
Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and...
Principle 6: ...the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
Environment
Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and...
Principle 9: ...encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
Anti-Corruption
Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
In Bulgaria the UN Global Compact vision has been adopted by 88 companies, 17 non-government organizations, 2 unions and 5 employer organizations.
