The "Bank of the Year" awards were established and presented for the first time in 1992. The main idea of this ranking is to be the platform that expresses the assessment of business and society for the work and development of Bulgarian banks and the banking system.

Over the years, some of the best experts and professionals in the financial and banking business participated in the development of the methodology for evaluating the results of the banks, and the experience of the best international practices was used in the evaluation of the annual results of the banks. The methodology uses the annual results of the banks, officially presented and published by the Bulgarian National Bank, as well as the audited reports of the financial institutions.
